Nice, Coran! Now, let me see, you wouldn't happen to be a Stargate fan, would you?!

I think that the back-facing-out carry has offensive capabilities that we really haven't even begun to canvass yet. I doubt that we could load the toddlers back-facing-out independently, but no one ever saved the world by themselves. It's going to be a team of (possibly tandem) babywearers that'll do it. Problem solved.

I think we also need to seriously consider the role that the common or garden variety nappy bag will play in the saving of the world.

Along those lines, I wonder whether, once the signs of alien invasion become apparent, I can get my wife to sew up something that I can wear the 3yo facing out, but worn on the back. I'm pretty sure that a 3yo with a hand-held Directed Energy Weapon would prevent even the toughest alien from sneaking up behind me. Plus we could heroically take the rearguard when fleeing the soon-to-self-destruct alien spaceship.

Oh, the wearee as an integral part of the alien-fighting team. I *like* it. I'd always thought about the kiddo as a necessary (but unhelpful) weight on your back. But an older toddler could definitely be trained to do the wimpy techie stuff while you get on with the cool explodey things that need doing. Nice one!

Thanks for all this useful info - I feel like I'm a bit more prepared for the alien invasion than for the zombie apocalypse as I like to use buckle carriers, and I'm already working out how I can attach and adapt various gadgets. My stainless steel water bottle is already pretty close to being a lethal weapon. Could the bottle holder be used to dispense junk food to an older child on your back? I could use that even w/o an alien invasion....

I think it would also help to have an older wearee permanently on your back to form a kind of symbiotic bwing force. My 3yo can often be found using a mobile phone or mp3 player while being worn.... maybe I could train her up to do the tech stuff while I battle the alien army?
